Will Aid contributions . .
In November each year we participate in the Will Aid scheme which raises money for a number of UK charities. The way this scheme works is that John does not get paid at all for drawing up a standard will and instead the client gives a donation to Will Aid. (Mirror wills, where partners leave everything to each other and the wills are otherwise identical are also included). Over many years of doing this Astburys has raised thousands of pounds for the Will Aid charities which include Save the Children, NSPCC, Age UK and the British Red Cross.
Just as with a feepaying client, John will have an initial consultation, send the draft to the client (and redraft if changes are necessary) and provide a witness for the final signing when the will is approved and bound. We are usually flooded with requests during this month so there is a lot of extra work but Astburys gets a great deal of satisfaction from raising money for these charities and hopes to continue this work indefinitely.

Part of the local community . . .
As well as Will Aid Astburys participates in other local events and charities. John is a member of the Lewes Rotary club and through it he organises the well-known annual Skittles tournament which raises money for the Victoria Hospital and the St Peter and St James Hospice. Another Rotary event that John gives his time to is YouthSpeak, which arranges public speaking events for the local schools. Astburys has also participated in 'free will' schemes for St Peter and St James Hospice and Amnesty International.
